More than 3,000 staff from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) are relocating to a brand-new, state-of-the-art building on King Street in Blackpool. The seven-storey, £100 million development sits near Blackpool North train station and brings together employees from multiple sites across Fylde.
Designed by London-based Make Architects, the building meets BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standards, reflecting best practice in sustainable building design, construction, and operation. Key features include terracotta façade panels, inspired by Blackpool’s architectural heritage, which are both highly sustainable and help reduce the building’s embodied carbon.
The building also incorporates consumption-led mechanical and electrical services, designed to improve energy efficiency while enhancing the indoor environment for occupants.
Inside, staff can enjoy a large reception lobby, open-plan workspaces, meeting rooms, quiet zones, and other flexible workplace settings. Generous ceiling heights and abundant natural daylight create a bright, airy environment aimed at boosting comfort and productivity.
The move represents a significant investment in both the local area and in creating a modern, sustainable workplace for DWP employees in Blackpool.
