Alder Hey and construction partner Morgan Sindall are celebrating a significant milestone in the creation of a groundbreaking new facility that will transform care for children and young people. The state-of-the-art building—set to house a dedicated surgical Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) alongside expanded emergency care services—is now structurally complete and on track to open in 2026.
The development includes a major Emergency Floor Expansion on the ground level, designed to bring together the expertise of paediatricians, emergency care clinicians, advanced clinical practitioners, primary care teams and family support workers. This integrated approach will be supported by a 16-bed assessment unit, a co-located Urgent Treatment Centre and a purpose-built Same Day Emergency Care facility, all aimed at delivering faster, more coordinated care.
Over the past two years, Alder Hey has received £9 million in capital funding, enabling the Trust to enhance and expand its emergency care capabilities, improve patient flow and reduce waiting times in A&E. To help realise this forward-thinking vision, Morgan Sindall incorporated a range of premium products supplied by RB Architectural Hardware. These include advanced access-control solutions designed to strengthen security while providing a smooth, user-friendly experience for everyone entering Alder Hey’s new facilities.
